How to Install Your Lock Chime
The 3 rules Tesla cares about
- Filename is exactly
LockChime.wav(case-sensitive). - It sits at the USB drive's root — NOT inside
/Boombox/, NOT inside/TeslaCam/. - The file is a real 16-bit 44.1 kHz WAV under 1 MB. The app handles all of this for you.
Step by step
- Format a USB drive (USB-A or USB-C) as exFAT or FAT32.
- In the app: Library → tap your finished chime → share to Files / your USB drive.
- Make sure
LockChime.wavis at the USB root, not inside any folder. - Plug into the Tesla's front USB port.
- On the car screen: Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound → USB.
Common problems
"Lock Sound" menu shows USB but doesn't play my file
- Did you put it inside a folder? Move it to the root.
- Filename: must be exactly
LockChime.wavwith capital L and C, lowercase the rest. - File size: must be under 1 MB. Trim shorter in the app.
- USB filesystem: exFAT or FAT32 only.
USB port doesn't see anything
- Use the front USB port (the glovebox/console one is for music data only).
- Try a different USB drive — some larger or fancier drives don't enumerate properly.
Tesla cuts the sound off mid-playback
- Some software updates clip Boombox sounds at ~15 s. Keep your chime under 6 s for best results.
